To win any battle it’s always wise to know one’s opponent. So to truly understand how to fight fat I think it’s important to first take a brief look at the history of the most complicated machine ever created in the history of the world…THE HUMAN BODY.
You have to keep this in mind. YOUR BODY LOVES YOU! It’s true. Its sole purpose is to make sure that you survive. No matter how bad you treat it. And it will do everything in its power to make sure that you do.
Let’s first start by taking a look at today’s “modern lifestyle”. And what I’m referring to is that we basically have a never ending supply of food. But the problem is that this “modern lifestyle” has only been around for the past couple of thousand years which is not long enough for the body to adapt. The truth is your body still thinks that you’re a caveman searching for your next meal. So if you’re body still thinks that we’re cavemen, some may argue we still are
, and food is scarce then your body’s main goal is to store energy for survival. And the best and most effective way to do that is in the form of fat.
You see your body thinks that fat is absolutely fabulous. Here’s why…
- As far as energy containers go, fat it very space efficient.
- It’s super easy to store. I think we all agree with that
- Fat is fairly easy to sustain. Ever notice how easy it is to keep it on?!
- And the deal closer…it can hold an UNLIMITED amount of calories. Yup, if your current fat cells fill up then your body is more than happy to create new fat cells so all those calories you’re feeding it have a new home. How nice.
Bodyfat is a near perfect way to store energy!
Back to the cave days. The rule of thumb for survival was to fatten up in the summer so you could survive the winter. Those who stored fat survived, those who did not died. Pretty simple. And not only did excess fat get you through the brutal winter when food wasn’t available but it also kept you warm. Remember, base-board heating wasn’t invented yet. So basically the way your body sees it…Fat = Survival.
So what have we learned…
1. Your body thinks you’re a Neanderthal and is preparing for the next food shortage.
2. Your body need energy to survive and fat is a near perfect way to store it.
3. Our “modern lifestyle”, which is fairly new, is not conducive to creating lean individuals.
I’m not sharing this to depress you. I just want to let you know what we’re up against. Remember; keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Now you know why your body loves fat and fat’s main purpose.
The good news is that there is a way to combat millions of years of evolution. It can be done! Strength training, nutrition, and cardio will be our weapons of choice. And we’re going to start breaking down our plan of attack throughout this multi-part series. If you follow this advice, apply the methods and practices, then I personally GUARANTEE that you too will defeat the enemy.
