Bristol RI Fitness – 3 Components For A Great Fitness Program
Well Spring is finally here. Isn’t it great?!
Sunny skies, flowers blooming, people walking up and down the bike path.
Ok, I may be jumping the gun a bit but the fact of the matter is that last Sunday was the first day of spring and summer is only 12 weeks away. And 12 weeks will go by pretty quick. Especially if you have your ducks in order. Will you be in shape for the summer?
Today’s article is to cover the 3 main components that go into a healthy fitness regimen. I’m going to briefly touch on them today and then go into more depth on each one in the coming weeks. You get these down and I GUARANTEE you will be looking and feeling great in 12 weeks J Let’s begin!
Component #1 – Fitness
Your fitness program is made up of two keys parts…
a) Strength Training – At one time people associated strength training only with athletes. Today that’s not the case. We are now all well aware of the many benefits associated with strength training and that it is important for men and women of all ages. 3-4 days a week for 40 minutes is a good goal.
b) Cardio – Simply put you have to burn the fat and cardio is the way to do it. There are many benefits with working up a good sweat and shedding fat is one of them. Pretty much any activity that raises your heart rate for an extended period of time will do the trick. Such as jogging, circuit training, cycling, cross-trainers, BOXING, etc. You should aim for 3-4 days a week at 30-40 minutes a session.
Component #2 – Nutrition
Eating healthy is an integral part to any fitness program. You should be aiming to eat a healthy meal every 3-4 hours comprising of carbs, proteins, and fats. Eating frequently like this is by FAR the most POWERFUL way boost your metabolism. You’re also keeping your blood rich with nutrients to help prevent muscle tissue loss which is a common problem with doing too much cardio. 5-6 small portion meals a day is ideal.
Component #3 – Motivation
You can have the best fitness and nutrition plan but they’re both worthless if you’re not motivated. Now everyone has different things that motivate them. In my experience the best way to stay motivated is to have a clear understanding of what your goals are and then to surround yourself with constant reminders throughout your day. It’s easy to get caught up in the day to day distractions of life and to lose sight of your goals. Cleverly placed reminders will do the trick.
Surely if you implement any one of these components you will experience some degree of success. But the true power is when you combine all 3. I promise you that if you get your fitness, nutrition, and motivation in place serious results are headed your way.
